Description:

DESCRIPTION:
------------
This applet controls killswitches and enables you to turn off or on radio devices.
I designed that application to use the wireless toggle function key on my Lenovo laptop which has a single toggle function key for 3 devices (bluetooth, wifi and ultrawideband).

I still need to figure out how to bind that applet to a function key (probably through HAL). This page might be interesting for this purpose: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_get_special_keys_to_work

If you want, you can contribute as described in the TODO file. Feedback is highly appreciated!

Enjoy!

INSTALL:
--------
1. unpack the source tarball: tar -xf killswitch-manager-0.2.src.tar.bz2
2. enter the uncompressed directory: cd killswitch-manager-0.2/
3. execute qmake: qmake .
If lrelease is not executed (i.e Fedora), launch it manually with the appropriate path: lrelease-qt4 resources/lang_*.ts
4. build the sources: make
The binary file that will be created is called killswitch-manager.
5. install the binary if you want to: sudo make install

A plasmoid for KDE 4 is now also available. It is still under development but the basic functionality operates well. You can install it the following way:
1. execute cmake (depending on your distro, you may need to change kde4-config to kde-config): cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix`
2. build the sources: make
If you encounter troubles, you may require to clean the environment first (and execute cmake again): make clean
3. install the plasmoid: sudo make install
4. update KDE4 coca: kbuildsycoca4

HELP:
-----
I am currently not succeeding in building a RPM package for the plasmoid on Fedora and Mandriva. I don't use those distributions and it will take quite a while to figure out how to fix my issue. If anyone could help me on the make install and the file locations for the plasmoid, I would be delighted to update my packages.

Changelog:

0.2:
- added plasma widget
- added device name
- added icon for mobile broadband
- added translations for labels and device types
- added install targets
- added get device name to the killswitch class
- changed checkbox styles and removed the label 'On/Off'
- packages now maintained for openSUSE, Fedora and Mandriva
- thanks to Valentine Sinitsyn for the Arch packages

0.1:
- initial release

 Binding keys in Linux

by paddlaren on: Mar 11 2010

Hi!

You might whant to examine the command "xmodmap". Whith this you can bind a special key to a "normal key".

Check the manpage:
http://www.xfree86.org/4.0/xmodmap.1.html

Thanks! However I knew about xmodmap but my function key is not recognized by xev and seems to be beyond the scope of X11. That's where Hal comes to manage those key events.

 Arch Linux package

by Val on: May 28 2010

Hi,

I've made an Arch Linux package for your program.

You can find it at http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=37575

.desktop file and the icon are probably useful for general distribution, too.

Thank you very much for both your package and the icon!

Best regards.

You are welcome. Actually, the icon is not mine (I've taken it from OpenClipart.org), but it is in public domain.
