Description:

LyX is a document processor that encourages an approach to writing based on the structure of your documents, not their appearance.

LyX is for people that write and want their writing to look great, right out of the box. No more endless tinkering with formatting details, 'finger painting' font attributes or fuzzing around with page boundaries. You just write. In the background, Prof. Knuth's legendary TeX typesetting engine makes you look good.

On screen, LyX looks like any word processor; its printed output -- or richly cross-referenced PDF, just as readily produced -- looks like nothing else. Gone are the days of industrially bland .docs, all looking similarly not-quite-right, yet coming out unpredictably different on different printer drivers. Gone are the crashes 'eating' your dissertation the evening before going to press.

LyX is stable and fully featured. It is a multi-platform, fully internationalized application running natively on Unix/Linux and the Macintosh and modern Windows platforms.

NOTE: Please use the project's mailing lists and tracker for bug reports and feedback.

Changelog:

CHANGES in 1.6.7:
=================

From the list of fixes and improvements, we'd like to highlight particularly that this release irons out all known stability problems with Qt 4.6. LyX 1.6.7 is our first release that is supposed to run smoothly with Qt 4.6, so we urge all distributors who use that version to upgrade LyX as well.

All users are encouraged to upgrade to this version.

Please refer to http://www.lyx.org/announce/1_6_7.txt for a detailed list of changes against version 1.6.6.1

Looks like the ideal piece of software for TeX n00b like me (-%E

It's a pity that lyx is hard to compile fully functional lyx without GTK though... I've managed it letting aside SVG support in imagemagick and recompiling few other packages even in dep-free (relatively) ArchLinux

Thanks for lyx!

You do not need GTK to build LyX.

 .pro file

by aarnek on: Mar 22 2009

this source package doesn't have a project file. So it is quite frustrating to open all files in qtcreator.

The development version (2.0svn trunk) now has a .pro file in development/qmake.

 opening .dvi files with okular

by mnurolcay on: Aug 31 2009

Dvi files created by LyX can not be opened with Okular. Just a blank page with black spots instead of letters.

Here's the ss: http://omploader.org/vMjk4eg

This looks like a LaTex setup problems. Please check you have the appropriate fonts installed. For more help, please consult the LyX users list.
